 This record left our Brett feeling happy.
Here's the debut EP from A Classic Education (that never sounds right to me, wouldn't A Classical Education be better?), it's got the tracks on one side and the other one's scaling Mount Blank, god only knows why but it's a point of interest I guess. Would've been nice if they could have continued the really nice artwork with a little etching or something on the other side but hey ho. On to the music then, within seconds I'm thinking of The Arcade Fire and there are definite similarities but they do it well enough to get away with it. It's very lush and grandiose with a bit of a pastoral feel, to me at least. Stuff like this isn't particularly my bag but I'm liking it so I imagine if you're into similar bands it'll go down a treat. It's only available on a limited run of 300, so be quick. They've put it out themselves and done that nice thing of letting you download the MP3s too so give 'em a bit of support.

Three songs started this whole thing off. Amongst four blazing nights between Xmas 2006 and the year of 2007, A Classic Education recorded “Stay, Son”, “Lovers Barricade” & “Victories At Night” in the middle of the mountains of centre-north Italy. Jonathan, Paul & Luca played a myriad of instruments, adding layers over layers, to create a dense orchestral ecstatic liberation of their souls. Most of all this was done at night, wind blowing and dogs outside barking away. Federico proudly drummed away loudly and added his bits of percussion. Vittorio joined us and although fighting a bad cough managed to add his viola, violin and cello expertise. Davide looked on and took care of the recordings up at the infamous Bombanella Studios. That following summer the dogs kept barking. Pictures were taken, shows were played and a band was found. Autumn seemed like a proper season to climb back up the mountains. “Badlands & Owls” was recorded again in the same setting in November 2007. This time Giulia finally stepped in with her organ/piano patterns and Stefano or as we call him the “Maestro” layered his violins nicely into the song. “Wartimes” is the last addition to this collection of songs. Paul set up a nice studio in the old and haunting artist residency called Nosadella Due and we recorded this ballad in April/May 2008.
Carl Saff from Saff Mastering in Chicago, Illinois mastered these five songs. Front and back cover are both acrylic on canvas paintings by the wonderful Ester Grossi. Giulia, Paul and the band finished designing the artwork a few days later. A Classic Education now is Jonathan, Luca, Paul, Giulia, Federico, Stefano “Il Maestro”.
This is a collection of songs from our first year as a band. Fanfarlo, Jeremy Warmsley & Enzo were deeply important for us and we would like to thank them for some amazing moments. You will hear more from us soon. Take care.

A Classic Education BIO & PRESS:
A Classic Education come from Bologna, Italy. Part Canadian, part Italian. The band has been going for just under a year. Much has happened since. A Classic Education has been invited to play with Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Lightspeed Champion, Hot Club De Paris, Fanfarlo, Jeremy Warmsley. They have played a selection of London’s best club nights such as White Heat or Twee As Fuck. This summer the band have been invited to play the Indietracks Festival alongside bands such as Los Campesinos!, The Wave Pictures & The Wedding Present.
