What we say
This record left our Phil feeling happy.
Maths Class release their new single on Gift Music. I love getting presents.... I don't get enough to be honest. If you want to ingratiate me then buy me things. I'll happily admit I am that shallow Maths Class do the jerky shouty thing along the lines of early Help She Can't Swim and early Liars (Brett reckons the latter). It's a decent enough thing which has masses of energy and enthusiasm which carries it along. I don't know where these kids get the energy from. Worried about future fuel bills? They should wire this lot up to the National Grid and get 'em to start playing. Cheap utility bills in no time. Nerves is a white vinyl 7" and CD...
What the label says:
CD 1 Nerves, 2 Deutsche, 3 Jonny Got The Jawline, 4 Branches, 5 Replays Of Relays, OVERVIEW:
Maths Class are an all encompassing angular Brighton-based five piece
formed in the summer of 2006. Barely in their twenties, the line-up is
Tim Sketchley (vocals), Piers Cowburn (synth and vocals), Andy Davies
(guitar and vocals), Aleksandar Damms (bass guitar) and Michael
Gartside (drums). 'Now This Will Take Two Hands' contains five songs,
whose greatest strength lies in their unpredictability; each track
incorporating musical styles and song structures that other acts would
struggle to fit into one short record. The awkward and aggressive lead
track 'Nerves' (A-side of the 7") has an immediacy that nails Maths
Class as a direct and unrelenting force. Building up a whirlwind
reputation over this last year for their energetic and chaotic live
shows, Maths Class have appeared on the radar as "the sort that cause
impromptu nosebleeds" (NME). Garnering massive support from the likes
of Vice magazine and Artrocker, performing on the coveted line-ups at
the launch of Vice Spain in Barcelona, Vice's Tales of the Jackalope
festival and Artrocker's renowned festival and club nights. Their set
at last year's inaugural Underage Festival led them to gain support
slots for Foals and Battles, and with unforgettable sets already this
year at Austria's Snowbombing Festival and The Great Escape, Maths
Class are deservedly in the company of some of today's finest,
pioneering and groundbreaking bands. This year is no exception, a
hectic gig and festival season awaits with slots already confirmed for
Rock Against Racism and Bestival among many others. Their debut AA side
single 'Emporio Laser/Cushion Glamour' was released on Life Is Easy
Records in November 2007 which was hotly received, selling out in two
weeks (CD and vinyl), and gaining radio play from Steve Lamacq, Huw
Stephens and John Kennedy. |
