What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis put simply make really fun records. Their eponymous debut is fun from start to end and so far everyone I've played it to likes it. Think Sun Records, Chess Records, rockabilly, hillbilly, Hawaiian cheese, blues all thrown into a huge authentic sandwich (no mayo) and you're some way to understanding what's on offer here. They use vintage equipment so it all sounds very authentic. So much so you could be hard pressed to guess its age. I think a lot of people would be surprised to find out that it's in fact a new release and not from yesteryear. I'm also reminded of the music from Ren & Stimpy which is just ridiculous but it's really apparent later on in the album. Amazingly their all teenagers.... when I was that age I didn't know what blues was. I thought it was a lot of different shades of the colour blue. Bless.... You need this record on vinyl as that's how it's supposed to be played.... It's also available on CD and ludicrous 5 x 10" set (78's like all of their 10"'s) which comes with a CD of the album so you can hear it. Great!! And I'm delighted someone is daring enough to do something different they believe in!

What the label says:

Hip sibling rockabilly trio Kitty, Daisy & Lewis release their much-hyped and long-awaited debut album to eager fans and pundits alike.
The incredibly talented multi-instrumental siblings (aged 15,18 and 17) fuse blues, swing, country and rock ‘n’ roll from the 1940s-1950s, while all the time sounding as young and fresh as they themselves are. This is their debut album, featuring live favourites plus excellent, original material by the band. It has been recorded in glorious, utterly digital-free analogue by Lewis and his father Graeme in their home studio in Kentish Town. Four years of festivals and high profile shows supporting the likes of Mark Ronson, Razorlight, Richard Hawley, Jools Holland and Mika. As well as the CD digipack and LP formats the label are manufacturing an authentic 1940s style, limited edition (500 copies) hard-backed album featuring five 10” records playing at 78rpm - the first time one of these has been made in over 50 years and highly collectable. This format will also include a free CD version of the album.
