What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

The Wave Pictures are one of those bands we've had loads of records by and I couldn't really tell you much about 'em at all. I think I've always been on the toilet or something when their records get played. It's not deliberate.... just a huge coincidence. They do happen. I'm always on the toilet me. It's a great place to hang out. The 'Just Like A Drummer' CD on Moshi Moshi thoroughly reminds me of Darren Hayman and the ilk. That sort of ernest indie with a quirky (possibly annoying?) voice to get your head around. Listening to this though I realise they're a talented bunch of lads as the songwriting seems strong. Certainly fans of Hayman will want to get on board with this lot.

What the label says:

TRACKLISTING: (1) Just Like A Drummer (2) Our perfect lovers (3) Time to leave town (4) Hotels & Motels (5) God Bless the Reverend Gary Davis (6) Dust Off Your Heart

OVERVIEW: "…charming, witty pop songs shot through with Jonathan Richman's gawky glee and Suede's doomed provincial romanticism….Tattersall has Morrissey's knack of marrying the ridiculous and the sublime in an exquisite, tautly turned phrase…"  THE GUARDIAN ****
"Lyrically they can turn on a dime…zipping from richly observed into amusingly confessional into a Lewis Carroll flight of fancy"  NME 8/10
"Good indie is the long river of splendour reaching back to late 70's Rough Trade and the odder bits of American nerd rock.  The Wave Pictures are very much good indie"  THE WORD

Four months on from their critically acclaimed debut album, The Wave Pictures release a six track EP of ceaselessly inventive songwriting and scrappily virtuoso Rock 'n' Roll.  The Just Like A Drummer EP is released on 4th August on Moshi Moshi.
Earlier this year fans gushed over the unaffected indie of The Wave Pictures first label released album Instant Coffee Baby.  Taken from that album, the lead single Just Like A Drummer is accompanied by 5 new songs; blessed with the extraordinary songwriting of lead singer David Tattersall and gorgeous vocal appearances from Rebecca Slow Club (on Dust Off Your Heart), and long standing Wave Pictures collaborator Lisa Li Lund.

Existing fans will be unsurprised to hear that songs pour out of The Wave Pictures.  So much so that albums two and three are already 'in the can', with their sophomore album set for release before the end of the year.  The band have appeared alongside contemporaries Darren Hayman, Slow Club, and Laura Marling

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'what did the cowboys do with all of those indians?'
