Phil's probably going to cry when he realises he didn't get to review 'Nothing Ever Happened', the new Deerhunter 7". He doesn't actually live in a house you know, he sleeps with his mouth clamped on to Bradford's Cox, hanging off it like a coat on a peg. No doubt you'll have heard this already if you're a fan since it leaked before they'd even recorded it but if you haven't then it's a nice taste of the more dream pop sound they've veered towards recently, if you imagine the Fluorescent Grey EP tracks but with more of a driving rock feel that's pretty close. Actually this is probably the most straightforward and accessible thing they've done so no doubt there'll be plenty of goons screaming 'Sell out!' in Bradford's face (after they've bought a stepladder to reach the lanky mutant's visage) but the opinions of goons matter not a jot. Apart from Bill Oddie's of course, no doubt he'll be sending his judgement message-in-a-bottle style inside the poo of a giant seagull that he's riding like a dragon. Superb from these boy and girls as usual!
