What we say
This record left our Brian feeling unmoved.
And to drag me right back up to date I've got The Cure, a little known indie rock outfit with goth undertones from the charming town of Crawley, which is home to the nations largest population of Angorran moss spiders. These fabulous creatures are particularly fond of oversized 80's Hi-Tek trainers and badly applied crimson lipstick from Boots and can live to well over 30 years old, stubborn & hardy as they are. Their web making prowess is unfortunately dulled by time and starts to resemble a sickly, saggy grey goo that has no chance of snaring the young, muscular flies & other trendy insects thus they get to amble on cheerfully in their "fly" hip-hop chav gear, unaware of the pitiful moaning of this respected yet elderly arachnoid lurking in the shadows. . So back to the band....Oh it's strummy, moany, head-noddy....Smithy. You're still buying Cure records at YOUR age? It's called 4:13 Dream. If this was my early morning bed-mare I'd be severely depressed.
What the label says:
The Cure’s
new studio album, their thirteenth, is appropriately called 4:13 Dream.
“There are songs about relationships, the material world, politics and
religion. They’re very upfront and dynamic,” says Smith of the new
songs. “People will be surprised how stripped-down and in-your-face the
record is.”
Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert
Smith, the Cure line-up compromises long-time members bass player Simon
Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and, back in the band for a third time,
guitarist Porl Thompson.
The Cure played several new songs
from this album during their recent world tour, which included a sold
out show at Wembley Arena.
Produced by Robert Smith and Keith
Uddin, the album was preceded by 4 singles, all released on the
thirteenth of each month: “The Only One (Mix 13)”, "Freakshow (Mix
13)”, "Sleep When I'm Dead (Mix 13)" and “The Perfect Boy (Mix 13)".
This
was followed by a remix EP "Hypnagogic States", a very special
compilation consisting of remixes of these singles by Gerard Way (My
Chemical Romance) and Julien-K, Pete Wentz & Patrick Stump (Fall
Out Boy), Wolves at the Gate (Jade Puget from AFI), 30 Seconds To Mars
and 65 Days Of Static (who supported The Cure on most of their recent
59 date World Tour) as follows:
1) “The Only One” remixed by 30 Seconds to Mars 2) “Freakshow” remixed by Wolves at the Gate (Jade E Puget – AFI) 3) “Sleep When I’m Dead” remixed by Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance and Julien-K 4) “The Perfect Boy” remixed by Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy 5) "Exploding Head Syndrome" (all 4 singles) remixed by 65 Days Of Static
All Artist royalties from this EP will benefit The International Red Cross.
