What we say
This record left our Brett feeling ecstatic.
Time for more pioneering techlectronIDM with the release of B12 Record Archives Vol. 2, which collects the early Kirk Degiorgio stuff on the label on the first CD along with more from the main B12 pair. We've only got a low-bitrate promo CD with no tracklisting to review from but even with fairly crippled audio it's obvious this release is packing some SERIOUS techno goodness from the more bangin' end of the spectrum. A fantastic historical document and musically superb in its own right..
What the label says:
Volume two of B12 Records epic ’Archive’ series collates the 3rd and 4th releases on B12 Records (catalogue numbers B1203 & B1204). These two EP’s continued the new era in UK Techno, with truly unique sounds coming from the B12 camp.
CD1 draws together the début work from Zee Sharp (Matt Cogger) and Future/Past, and As One, a.k.a. Kirk Degiorgio, who is now considered to be one of the best Techno producers to emerge during this time.
Kirk has subsequently released music, on Planet E, R&S, Likemind, New Electronica, MoWax, Buzz and his own highly influential Applied Rhythmic Technology (ART) and OpART Record labels. His critically acclaimed B12 Records debut is undisputed as a forerunner in the unique sound of British Techno and has been fully re-mastered here, from the originals.
CD2 continues the techno explorations of Mike Golding and Steve Rutter, this time under the guise of Musicology, their more upbeat incarnation. It was this EP that first captured the imagination of Warp Records. The lead track, ’Preminition’ subsequently appeared on the first Artificial Intelligence compilation album that launched the now infamous series.
Also included on CD2 are another 2 Bonus Tracks extracted from the B12 Records Archives, also previously unreleased, never heard before on any format.
