One of the best records you'll hear this year is the new Hood LP  (Cold House) on Domino which fortunately I'd had a copy for some time now. Really hard one to describe cos it pretty much swings from genre to genre. I hate to use this word but it is a fusion. Yes a fusion I say. And that fusion consists of indie, hip hop, electronica, jazz and probably more. Doesn't really sound like any of them to confuse you. Well I guess it's more indie and electronic than anything else. It's fantastically done anyway and you would be a fool not to either buy this or check it out at a mates. Also while stocks last you get a free sticker with every LP/CD (not available now!!) Nice. What the label says: Formed around the familial axis of Chris and Richard Adams in the hot-bed of industrial decline and tertiary-sector dementia that is Northern England , Hood have been absorbing and perplexing listeners since their faltering formation in the early 90s.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
