What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Next up is Jan Emanuel comprising of 2 Swedish electronic/ avant garde acts Bauri and Erik Levander. Bauri do a class piece bouncy percussive electronica. It reminds me of Orbital in it's chugging laidbackness. A cracking beaty piece of music. We like very lots. The flipside is a newcomer to the world of released music and it's a chap called Erik Levander. There is a small pressing fault at the end of this track. It lasts for around a second and it's tiny digital glitch. Very sorry about that. Anyway here we have a piece of laidback electronica with an ever so slight jazzy feel but I think that's probably the clarinet (or whatever woodwind instrument it is). It sounds very cinematic and it's quite swampy in places. Brian here reckons it's like a slowed down Tortoise from their TNT release. Lovely lovely lovely....These are exciting times we live in....

What the label says:

This singles name is Jan Emanuel. It's full name is Jan Emanuel Whiskey 40. It's a split between 2 fine Swedish artists and there's only 250 copies for the entire world. There is a small pressing fault at the end of the Erik Levander track which lasts for one second. We hope this doesn't spoil your enjoyment of an otherwise splendid record.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'is it teatime yet?'
