What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Brian feeling ecstatic.

Much nicer is the simply gorgeous Maps & Diagrams LP/CD on Expanding which comes across as a twinkling, glitchy hybrid of Arovane & Gimmik and the like. Could be one of the most pleasant full lengthers I've heard in a while. Pretty as you like with some fantastic whirrs and belches. It's called 'Polytuff-tech' and wants to snuggle in your home NOW!

What the label says:

Maps + Diagrams is Tim Martin, who grew up in Nottingham listening to his friend's dad's collection of Kraftwerk, Talking Heads and punk records, and developing a love affair with electro and hip hop. As Maps + Diagrams, Tim has also previously released music for Neo Ouija, Tundra Music, Endorphin, Static Caravan, and runs his own label, Cactus Island.

Polytuft-Tech strikes a complex and intricate sound but retaining all the warmth and melody of Tim's earlier work. In his own words... "I prefer to create simple melodies that tend to bounce off each other and try not to get too distracted with over-production. Polytuft-Tech is a step up in the sound I developed with my debut LP, Free-Time, on Pause_2. I kept similar melodies and developed a warmer more advanced structure with more emphasis on the percussion and underlying sounds that carried the music deeper."

"Another adolescence lost to bedroom beats, Tim Martin thankfully has far more sense than CPU's. Like Autechre on uppers, Maps + Diagrams snap, crackle and lightly pop in beautiful electronic directions- 16 instrumental, chattering and clattering sets of blips and beats. Polytuft-Tech feels similar to the warm pulse of the human heart rerouted through Cubase, as playful as it is persuasive. These Maps + Diagrams loosely signpost a place of mysterious beauty." - Careless Talk Costs Lives
