What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Brian feeling ecstatic.

Big up the Wetherby art pop massive! Local rock behemoths Hood return from their US of A tour-a-thon only to bugger off to Japan for a week leaving us all clutching a hot off the press new single, 'The Negatives'. This ain't the Kaiser Chiefs baby. We have here a kaleidoscope of dreampop bliss with some right fresh electronica flourishes & a slight waltz-ey tinge equalling a huge leap forward in optimism. It really is their happiest POP song ever I'd say, despite the continued yearning, anguished feel of singer Graham's feral rasp, the chugging death metal riffs from axe meister Dave & even drummer Jeff sounds like he's having the time of his life battering millions of small baby squirrels to death with his knarly clubs. Grrrrrr. Ltd to 500 (!!) copies of each of the CD ( + 2 new trax & video) & 7" (essential alternative take on flip)

What the label says:

The second single from the brand new Outside Closer LP is one of the real highlights from a record of dizzying beauty. The Negatives is Hood at the peak of their slanted pop songwriting success. Melding together elements of disco, pastoral folk and the most exquisite beats, the band have compressed their trademark sound into a brave new statement of intent. Its lush.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
