Remember them? One of the the big important questions (along the lines of what is the meaning of life, why is snot green, how does TV really work etc..) is how come Regal didn't drop Alfie after the major label debut didn't do right well. A mystery I'm sure you'll agree. Well they're back with a new single called Your Own Religion on 7" and CD and it's not a massive departure apart from some really awful guitars and someone has turned the drums up to 11 . Aside from that it sounds like an Alfie tune... ie catchy and it's heart is in folk. Am not entirely sure about the big bombastic production though. Still if you took the hideous shrieking guitars out this wouldn't be bad at all. If.....

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
