Envelopes are a right ole crazy proposition. That 1st single was a craze-a-thon unlike anything I can remember. Their new single (Free Jazz) is as inspired to be honest. I can't think of another band as wonky and as off the the all yet with such a talent for pop tunes. If anyone has any suggestions let me know please. This new single is well bum and if you don't get a copy you must be stupid or summat. Marvellous... What the label says: Includes: Put On Hold & Pink Christmas Has Sweden ever, over the two zillion years since the conception of the universe, produced a less-than-decent art-pop band? The latest export are the rather more-quirky-than-usual Envelopes. Borrowing it's erm, inspiration from Trio's Da Da Da, Free Jazzis as spiky and wilful as the title suggests, with singer Audrey yelping lines like 'I see these brand new faces, I want to wear them' amid an irresistable kitsch-tronic onslaught. Catchy as cooties. NME

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
