What we say
This record left our Clint feeling ecstatic.
Clint here with more. First up Animal Collective - one of the few
new bands to lick my ears in a seductive manner and not have me chop
their tongue off with a rusty pair of shears. I'm always amazed by their
songs -its kind of nice acoustic stuff slightly chopped up full of
crazy noises and mad all-over-the-place vocals. Experimental but hugely
enjoyable - the perfect combination - like cheese and tomato.
Imagine Fourtet with The Beach Boys singing all over it chopped up
by Fennesz and lovingly fucked with by the Thinking Fellers Union Local

For the first time in limited edition 180g DMM vinyl, ‘Sung Tongs’ is a dazzling, bold and adventurous pop album. Diverse in its scope and yet fully coherent, the album moves from chiming acoustic guitar songs to gentler, more dispersed picked ballads, to sprawling, guitar-swell psychedelics, bubbling, acid-warped vocal fx, and tribal, almost shamanic trance-outs based around looping vocals and hypnotic kick-pulses.
• With a new album out on Domino in Jan 09, a full and lengthy press and radio campaign will run alongside the DMM reissues meaning that Animal Collective will once again be featured and reviewed in all major press. • With three other classic Animal Collective albums also coming out on DMM 180g vinyl, this will be even more collectable • ‘Sung Tongs’ is a stunning, modern folk / pop album - referencing points from Syd Barrett to Fennesz, The Beach Boys to Kompak-style electronica, Joe Boyd, múm, Simon & Garfunkel. • Animal Collective have a large following of loyal fans who will make sure this collectable record is in their collection. • Gaining critical acclaim at the time, this album picked up some great press and radio:
Features: I-D, Logo, Flux, Sleaze, Bizarre, Mojo (‘Mojo Rising’), Dazed & Confused, Uncut (‘Almost Famous’), Jockey Slut, DJ, NME, TimeOut, The Fly, and more.. Reviews: The Wire, I-D, Mojo (the third consecutive ‘Essential Underground Album’ for AC!), Uncut (5/5), DJ, Rock-Sound, Sleaze, Flux, Class; plus websites, and more, NME, TimeOut, The Fly, and more.
Sung Tongs is a romantic album; romantic in its celebration of innocence and nonsensical shared knowledge, and the sweet, trusted idea that everything will be fine-- as if it hadn't always been. 8.9/10 Pitchfork
"Syd Barrett, for one, proceeded them, he built the road. But Animal Collective travel further down it than any of their contemporaries." Wire "There's lots of sub par 'weird folk' about. These are the genuine article." Observer
"...they sound new. Something strange, confused, beautiful but essential and meant for us." Stool Pigeon
