Now then 'Sapphire Eyes' is the latest SERENA MANESH single. I knew a girl once at school called Serena. Once I almost took her head off in science with a clamp stand. My teacher caught me and gave me a right bollocking and said that if I continued behaving in this unacceptable manner he'd see to it that I'd never do science again. Phew imagine that, I'd have such a distorted image of the world. I'd still think the stork delivered babies. Anyway my teacher turned out to be the producer for The Super Furries, he spotted some Sonic Youth Graffiti on my exercise book and after that he was cool with me. Enough waffle Phil says that it sounds like a cross between Spacemen 3 and Lush. I saw the chick from Lush in real life once. Her hair was so bright it nearly burned out my retinas. 'Candlelighted' on the B-side is a cool little instrumental which is lot heavier with the relentless drum bashing, layers of feedback and tons of energy. On Play Louder.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
