What we say
Onto this SECEDE CD/12" on the rather ace Sending Orbs label. I've been quietly getting into this label of late. If you're into ambient electronics then this is the label for you. The Vega Libre EP is decent enough stuff (not as strong as previous releases) and it reminds me of the more upbeat Orb tracks from the early 90's.... the Andy Weatherall mixes of The Orb... It's got that kind of bouncy electronic spacey thing going on. Nothing new or exciting here, but it's competently done and if you're hankering for more of that sound check it out as it's done very well indeed. Check out Trysashia by 'em.... Ace stuff!! What the label says:Secede has built quite a fanbase since 2003’s ‘Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic’ (Merck), and his first Sending Orbs album ‘Tryshasla’ in 2005. Now, he finally delivers his next concerto for electronica, ‘Vega Libre’, 7 electrifying and sensual tracks running over 50 minutes, accompanied by a 28 minute 4 track 12” sampler on orange vinyl. Just like its predecessor, the story behind ‘Vega Libre’ deals with something coming to an end - where ‘Tryshasla’ was a holiday into a dying man’s dreamland, ‘Vega Libre’ is based on the idea of an apocalyptic party. The exaltant, hiphop-beat opener & title track is the leitmotiv of the EP, and its sounds and melodies keep recurring throughout the rest of the release. Recalling the monumental early days of FSOL and The Orb, Secede captured the spirit of early 90s electronica so well that the ambient grandmaster Tetsu Inoue agreed to provide a remix, included as the final track on the CD version. Traditional but modern, highly sophisticated and more beautiful than ever before, this is voluptuous music full of well-placed samples and detail, with a fantastic pace. Where much electronica nowadays seems to be getting colder and angrier, Secede manages to characterize himself as the antidote. |
