It's a quiet old week for singles this week as the run up to the day when Santa drops a load of crap presents down your chimney for you to be hideously disappointed with on xmas day. So we rummaged through the weeks singles and the best one this week by a mile is the DEERHOOF 7" picture disc on ATP/Tomlab. The Perfect Me is the first fruit from their forthcoming album due sometime next year (the earlier half I'd guess...) and it shows them in their most poppy coherent form. It's still totally off it's arse mind you yet it's completely listenable. There's about 100 bits to the song and they all join together in what seems to be a confused mess but it's actually complete and utter organised chaos pop. They do that very well..... each song is like an album condensed into just a few minutes. The sound is ludicrously full and the drum sound is incredible.... the best drum sound I've heard in a while. Christ I sound boring..... Comparisons are thin on the ground... at times I hear bits of The Blues Explosion and the smallest whiffs of Stereolab..... maybe on crack or something? The B side is a cover of Bungalow Bill which morphs into The Little Drummer Boy. All very festive I'm sure you'll find and with the picture disc artwork by David Shrigley it's a rather natty little package. Hazaar
