Tell Me What Went Wrong is the debut outing on new label Weekender (off shoot of the   Austrian rock n roll club of the same name) from Stratford-Upon-Avon’s Eight Legs. Romantic, insistent and painfully now, songs like this are the reason why Eight Legs are causing a fervent industry buzz. With a sound incorporating elements of The Cure’s edgy pop and Bloc Party’s sonic dynamics, they have tapped into something strong, vital and dynamic. Recorded in May 2006, Tell Me What Went Wrong is the band’s first ‘drug song’, “an explanation of the ups and downs, the regrets and the trials and tribulations of ecstasy,” they say. “To the unsuspecting ear, it can be taken as a love song. We chose not to be too blatant because drugs are not something we necessarily wish to condone. Our themes are provocative, relevant and reflective of our times.” Initially taking the name Superheroes (and, unknowingly, treading on the toes of the Danish ska funk band, hence the change), the band have played and toured relentlessly, racking up support slots with, amongst others, The Cribs and The Futureheads along the way. They have self-released five recordings since 2003, and in January of this year were commissioned to produce the soundtrack for the Dior Homme fashion show in Paris, an honour previously bestowed on The Rakes, Beck and Razorlight. The band reworked their two-and-a-half minute pop song These Grey Days into a 15-minute elegy, creating the perfect ambience for Hedi Slimane’s monochrome collection.
