What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

More goodness from Great Pop Supplement! A new 7" by Phosphorescent limited to a paltry 250 copies. The press info sums this up absolutely perfectly. It's a direct blend of Will Oldham and Jeff Mangum ala Neutral Milk Hotel. There's almost no point adding anything else to it cos I'll be wasting my time and your eyes. It's excellent though and if you fancy some psychedelic country pop with a brass section then you'll be wanting this puppy. I Am A Full Grown Man is well worth checking out!

What the label says:

Up next comes the first UK outing by Athens, GA singer songwriter Matthew Houck's ever changing psychedelic folk/blues band PHOSPHORESCENT. Kind of middle ground between Jeff Mangum and Will Oldham, 2 tunes of gloriously ramshackle disjointed blues delivered in Houck's plaintive, cracked voice. Wonderfully weird yet beautiful poetry delivered among a psychedelic wash of horns, pump organ, pedal steel, choral voices and fuzz guitar. Warmly intimate, soulful psych bettered perhaps only in recent times by Neutral Milk Hotel's mighty "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea". Heartache and pure uplifting joy in equal measure over 2 songs of 5 minutes plus, each.

A very limited, numbered pressing of 250 only in ace packaging.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
