Really unsure what the frig to make of KLAXONS. 'Myths of the Near Future' is upon us, a hastily constructed alter of polished fizzing space age pop, kinda like Hot Chip with a Prodigy tee-shirt & bigger glowsticks . These guys know how to shake up the bland world of indie as it stands today, injecting the scene with a day-glo post-everything soup of visceral energy & schizo fun. For example, they weigh in somewhere between The Specials & System of a Down on 'Atlantis to Interzone', then sooth yr senses with a pristine blend of perfect 80's radio pop on the single 'Golden Skans'. Noteworthy is the backing vocal harmony ripped off a forgotten 80s tune to devastating effect. These guys are very talented & know how to sling a great, atmospheric tune together. In this melting pot of a purist baiting age, this bands ballsy schtick sticks. A 3 piece with a rather thrilling & fresh approach. They wanna be stars. Gone is the day when a band wants "indie cred" I heard 'The Warning' by Tepid Crisp the other week & felt a little depressed. This album, full of star grasping melodies, wonky hooks & a quirky attitude somewhat re-dresses the balance. Got any new rave, Dave? Well if their cover of sparkling 90's hands aloft anthem 'It's Not Over Yet' is owt to go by, then the answer may well be aye Captain!
