What the label says:

‘In The Pines’ is the second release from Domino’s The Triffids reissue campaign, following last year’s ‘Born Sandy Devotional’. It will be released simultaneously with the 2CD version of ‘Calenture’.   The 24 page CD booklet will include previously unused photos of the recording of the album, some original handwritten notes / sketches from Dave McComb’s notebooks and liner notes from original engineer Bruce Callaway.    As part of Domino’s efforts to bring the wondrous music of the Australian band to a wider audience, American artist Steve Keene has been enlisted to add a new visual element to the re-issue campaign. Directed by Braden King, a video has been produced featuring artist Steve Keene in action, working on his trademark multiple paintings, inspired by the music and his muse. This video is shown on the painter’s site and links have been sent to specialist art sites (like Intute) as well as on the different parties sites. Domino are also planning an exhibition of Steve Keene’s paintings on the Triffids website.A hardback book written by Bleddyn Butcher about David McComb and The Triffids will be published in 2007.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
