What the label says:

On his third album, ”Strjon”, Arve Henriksen is joined by his Supersilent colleagues Helge Sten and Ståle Storløkken. Sten has also produced the album. ”Strjon” brings together the various sides of Henriksen, from the zen-like solo pieces of his debut album ”Sakuteiki” to the open-ended melancholia of ”Chiaroscuro” and dark, brooding lyricism of Supersilent. Born in 1968, Arve Henriksen studied at the Trondheim Conservatory from 1987-1991, and has worked as a freelance musician since 1989. He is without doubt one of Norway´s leading instrumentalists and a master of the trumpet, as can be hear on previous solo albums, numerous Supersilent albums and as a side player for musicians such as Trygve Seim, Christian Wallumrød, Dhafer Youssef, David Sylvian and Frode Haltli to name only a few. ”My new record is called "Strjon", the mediaeval name of my home village Stryn on the westcoast of Norway. Strjon means streaming river/waters referring to the Stryn river. When I go there to visit my family I still get astonished and almost frightened by the fantastic nature, the glaciers hanging down from high abrupt mountains where avalanches are crashing down during the winter season, but also calm and relaxed by the beauty and majestic tranquillity of the scenery. Most of the music comes from my own "library" of sounds and music created during my days at Stryn. At the age of 16 I started to make sketches and recorded lots of cassettes with improvised electronic sequences, and over the years loads of tapes and discs have been added to the pile of homemade studio sketches. My idea has been to look into this material to search for a history, for moods, perhaps to understand a little bit more and maybe discover some reasons for why I play like I do. To help me, and to co-ordinate this work I chose Helge Sten as my producer and guide. I mentioned this idea to him some years ago and he thought this angle was a very interesting starting point for making a record. He has created music based on some of my old soundscapes and also plays the guitar on three tunes. I visited Ståle Storløkken and his studio in Trondheim for another project and ended up with some improvised material that evolved into two tunes on ”Strjon”. I would like to thank both for making this happen and bringing in their superb knowledge. It is an honour to work with these two
