("Space" was the Wire Magazine's album of the month) In the past, Toral's work had been based on the guitar and the myriad possibilities of generating sounds from it. More often than not, his music exhibited a tendency towards the concept of the drone. So many people familiar with his oeuvre were surprised to learn that none of those elements figured in "Space" .In the program, Toral focuses on "single sound events". The sounds are generated by self-devised electronic equipment set into action by the performance of gestures, by bodily action . Thus, the music is created by individual decisions in real time - just like in Jazz, as Toral emphasizes. So basically, this is electronic music played with a jazz sensibility.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
