What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

HERMAN DUNE= 2 French dudes with beards who sit on chairs... New single = I Wish That I Could See You Soon... Simple accoustic pop which Ant says sounds like Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. Van's a grumpy old twat as well from all accounts so he may sue... Perhaps a bit of Jonathan Richman says ole Mingus...

What the label says:

Herman Düne have released several albums since their inception in 2000, the most recent being the widely acclaimed ‘Not On Top’ (Track And Field). This notorious underground band has a fan base spanning Europe and in the USA, including the late John Peel, for whom they recorded 12 sessions in all. UK press coverage has been consistently excellent.

The band have roots in Sweden, France and New York. The brothers David-Ivar (‘Ya Ya’) - guitar, bass & vocals and André - guitar, sax & vocals - have played together since early chidhood with Néman on drums and recent addition, younger sister Lisa, backing vocals. Giant was recorded in a studio near Mount Snowdon in North Wales, UK. This charming album brims with poetry, melody and groove.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
