Ouch the new release of Elliott Smith's work entitled New Moon. I was so looking foward to hearing these songs but listening to it now makes me want to cry... A more melody driven acoustic guitarist you will not hear. I'm all carried with his insanely beautiful and personal whispered vocals pulling at the heart like a bird stuck on a wire. Out takes and early versions (Miss Misery) or whatever, these are meloncholic masterpieces from a man struggling with drug addiction and his own inner demons. If you need to be reminded to be uplifted by these songs, its that you can almost hear the medicine and joy its giving him write and sing them and its a therapy that we are lucky enough to share. Tears of joy.... tears of pain.xxxx (Note this is the 2nd full release since he died... and I'm sure there will be many many more releases of things he didn't consider releasing whilst he was alive....P x)

Arguably the most gifted songwriter of his generation, Elliott Smith produced a large body of work that includes five solo albums, as well as ‘From A Basement On The Hill’ (2004). ‘New Moon’ contains 24 songs recorded between 1994-1997, a prolific time in Smith’s career, when he recorded his self-titled album and ‘Either/Or’ (both also released by Domino).
