What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Brand new Candie Payne single called I Wish I Could have Loved You More from ex Noonday Underground dude. This is more like the earlier Noonday stuff with that souly/ 60's groovey edge. It's well spy! And it's well good. I like it a lot!! It's total swingin' sixties. I'm pleased I brought my polka dot miniskirt in cos I can dress up and dance like a loon. Wooeee!! Great pop music. on Deltasonic..

What the label says:

After a successful debut tour with The Bees and with two highly sought-after limited seven inch singles under her belt, Candie Payne releases a new single ‘I Wish I Could Have Loved You More, a retro-futuristic gem that sounds like the Neptunes collaborating with Phil Spector on the soundtrack to a sixties Kitchen Sink drama.

After several years spent playing in bands in Liverpool and fronting Liverpool indie group Tramp Attack, Candie signed as a solo artist to Deltasonic, the same influential Liverpool label that brought us the Coral and The Zutons.

Now, after writing and recording with Simon Dine (Noonday Underground), Candie’s debut album is due for release 21st May 2007.

“It’s pop music on the surface, but there is an underlying eeriness and even loneliness” Candie explains. “These songs are trying to communicate the thoughts and feelings that go through your head when you’re struggling in a relationship.”

A collection of peerless songs and a timeless sound and style, sitting somewhere between Dusty in Memphis and Portishead, this is northern soulful pop of the most forward thinking variety.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'Guilty feet aint got no rhythm.'
