What we say
This record left our Maggie feeling happy.
Finally on Domino we have a 52 track release from Sebadoh of early recordings from 1988 which would make up the release of their debut album "The Freed man". Available on heavy vinyl and CD. Its all pretty free sounding and fun with lots of sex references. Lo-fi like early Beck and folky. Making me want to check out more of their stuff as they are a band that I never really gave much time. Loads of quick ideas with sound clips from tv and the like. One for the collectors and Seb fans I'm sure.
What the label says:
1988 saw Eric Gaffney and Lou Barlow working on a 4 track recorder, solo and in collaboration, for the tracks which would make up ‘The Freed Man’, the first cassette release by Sebadoh, their newly formed group. That summer, the duo selected and compiled the thirty minute cassette, a clutch of lo-fi, intimate, delicately twisted songcraft and dizzying, perplexing experimentation. Now, following Domino’s expanded release of the group’s ‘III’ album last year, this deluxe release of ‘The Freed Man’ recompiles those original tracks with further contemporaneous songs, noise and abstraction. This doesn’t dilute the original, it deepens the experience, expanding the album’s horizons. ·The reissue will be available on CD with slipcase of course but also on heavyweight vinyl, a format that will appeal to the collectors. The album compiles 52 tracks, all of early recordings from both ‘The Freed Man’ album and it’s EPs.
