What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Maggie feeling unmoved.

Now a Jack Penate picture disc which is part 2 of some contrived "set". Not really sure what to say really. Its like a cross between Jamie T with Housemartins style guitar chords (think happy hour). Sounds a bit Finley Quaye. Public school boy busker quips Mingus. So thin and whimsical it floats off our turntable like a frisbee. Torn On The Platform is on CD too!!

What the label says:

His recent, debut release for XL Recordings – the single ‘Spit At Stars’ – wowed many and showcased to the nation a genuine, exciting raw talent for the first time; the accompanying video carved up TV plays a plenty, he got immense support from Radio 1 and XFM (it was made Jo Whiley’s Single of the Week and was never off Zane Lowe’s deck).
·Not one to hang around, his next release is here - ‘Torn On The Platform’ - and is already a firm favourite with his fans and a highlight of his entrancing live set - a set that has reached well beyond his London confines with his last touring schedule reaching in excess of sixty sold out dates in as many days.  Heartfelt and impassioned, ‘Torn On The Platform’, (as the title suggests) finds Jack himself on a train, leaving a town he’s not sure he wants to leave. In just four minutes of pop brilliance, the questions of his racing mind pour out on to an open page and one of the countries best new lyricists is born.  The single is completed with brand new tracks, ‘Silence In Speech’, ‘Roll Your Own Dice’ and ‘On The Road’, all being made available over the various formats of the record (CD Single and two 7” vinyl singles).
·The two seven inch singles are intended to form a ‘set’ – 7”A has a wide spine and ‘barn door’ sleeve’ to house 7” B (a picture disc).

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
