I thought I'd bang on the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs for a laugh. They started off quite promising and then went a bit pony but I always like to give bands another chance. The new EP (Is Is) is is (ha!) surprisingly noisy and reasonably uncommercial. The volume of the drums on the 1st track is ludicrously high.... always a sucker for loud drums. The whole EP is awash with 5 noisy and experimental (for them!) tunes which kick ass and make me realise why I liked 'em in the 1st place. Nice one.... am suitably impressed.

What the label says:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs make a surprise return after 2006’s stunning ‘Show Your Bones’ with a 5 track EP of live favourites. Titled 'Is Is', the EP was recorded in a whirlwind one day in New York and features songs written on the road while they toured 'Fever To Tell'. 3 of these blistering tracks previously appeared on their live dvd 'Tell Me What Rockers To Swallow' but this is the first time any of them have been recorded in a studio.

The band have captured the raw excitement of their live show in these recordings. In fact, they love playing them so much they’ve made a special film to accompany the EP with co-directors KK Barrett (Sofia Coppola films) and Lance Bangs (video director - Sonic Youth, Nirvana). Recorded live in night-vision at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn on 7th May, the band played a now legendary set that night to just 100 lucky female fans. There will be a filmed versions of lead track Down Boy to EP audio and 4 videos of the remaining tracks cut to live audio.

The EP will be available on fabulous gatefold double 7” vinyl, CD digipack and digital bundle with art exclusively designed by long time collaborator Julian Gross from Liars.
