What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

That Studio album we got last week was pretty good. It was a bit of a grower and if you're into early 80's pop with some Neu/ Can/ The Cure stuff chucked in you'll like it I'm sure. If you're not sure though, check out the 7" we got called West Side Part 1 and 2 which sounds like the above. His voice sounds exactly like Robert Smith (or the guy from Bloc Party if you don't know who Robert Smith is....it occurred to me that some readers may not know..) and it's a bit like early Duran Duran. They're Swedish you know, not Duran Duran but Studio. It's well slayer.

What the label says:

STUDIO is the missing link between The Cure and
Lindström touching on Can, Neu, Happy Mondays and The
Smiths in their creation of an afrobeat-dub-disco-indie-pop
adventure.

This is a 7” limited to 1000 copies of re-workings of one of
the standout tracks from the album West Coast out a week
previous. These copies will not stay long on the shelves.

STUDIO’s music has a broad appeal. “Serious” music
enthusiasts will recognise the depth of the music and
connections to kraut-rock artists like Can and Neu, classic
indie rock artists like The Cure and The Smiths and many
shades of dance music like old school house, dub and disco.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'uh.... my eyes.... everything's so bright here.'
