What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Mingus Rude feeling happy.

Lovvers: "Near Enough For Jazz" (Jonson Family) A bit of a post-hardcore skronk out that comes across a little grungy with a melodic breakdown towards the end that turns into some thirties jazz interlude. If we gave a prize for sleeve art work this would win hands down, with it's woodblock style print harking back to the sort of colours and shapes used for Scandanavian cartoons I used to watch as a kid, yeah like the Moomins. Mr Phil wouldn't go near this cos' it's got JAZZ in the title. Oh yeah...anyone know how Lovvers is pronounced?

What the label says:

Second single from Lovvers. The debut, released in April, sold out in weeks. Vice magazine gave it 9/10; “Like Antioch Arrow on bad ecstasy”. Drowned In Sound gave it 9/10; “a band channelling their most-pissed fuckin’ fuck you emotions into music and capturing, accidentally or otherwise, something strikingly special”. Formed a little over a year ago in Nottingham, LOVVERS is a group of passionate individuals, loud and honest they portray a form of musical reality often associated with the early 80’s or mid 90’s US acts, many of which were found on the labels SST and SUB POP. Their sound is a chaotic mixture of fractured guitar and mangled vocals, that some how regroups to form a very clear structure.
