Maggie: "Danube Flow" is a self released edition of 50 CDr's from a former Hood collaborator and all-round good person Mark Wright. Maggie is a duo specialising in heartbreaking tunes backed by all manner of instrumentation including banjo (the new guitar after the piano), melodica, fiddle, drums and organ. Nearest comparisons are the High Llamas meets Panda Bear jamming at the Brudenell Social (a gig venue in Leeds!) with Beiruit. The voice is barely there in a distantly warm way but it's the combination of all the instrumentation with spoken word samples that hints at an ambitious scope-maybe when they're famous they could hire a full orchestra and choir. Three tracks good on this very encouraging debut release. Catch em' live round Leeds...something's definitely developing here. Well recommended.
