What we say
This record left our Mr Productino feeling unmoved.
Now Kaiser Chiefs with 'Angry Mob'. A chirpy pop song with Blur style verse, Super Grass style chorus, Beatles post chorus and The Who style finale. Stadium rock for a rainy day. B-sides got some weird faze to his voice to make it sound more interesting. Like the musical equivalent of the free papers. Its worth a flick but ultimately its disposable and it'll be tomorrows chip papers. ( And no doubt a hit!- Mingus)
What the label says:
Kaiser Chiefs sign off the summer with the arrival of their third single of the year. The (almost) title track from their 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' is set for release on August 20th and follows what has been a typically frantic period for the band, with gigs across the world including a definitive showing at this years Glastonbury, and a run of headline appearances at festivals throughout Europe.
'The Angry Mob' differs from their previous output in so far as the song culminates with the chorus rearing its anthemic head, as one critic duly noted..."it takes an eternity to reach its sparkling chorus...but the journey is so beguiling you hardly notice.." Already aired aplenty on their live dates the track has proven to be a favourite with the crowds and undoubtly one of the 'picks' from their second album. 'The Angry Mob' portrays another side to Kaiser Chiefs and one which adds yet another string to their collective bow!
Kaiser Chiefs in association with DC Thomson and Beano illustrator have come up with exclusive sleeve artwork depicting the band as characters in a Denis The Menace style comic strip also featuring one or two other notable faces. The single will be available as a 7" picture disc featuring Gnasher, the CD will have the full artwork on the inlay and there will also be a extremely limited 7" posterbag version which will feature the comic strip artwork as a poster and also a comic strip illustration of the band's 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' album sleeve featuring the band. DC Thomson and Kaiser Chiefs are also proud to annouce that the August edition of Beano Max will feature another exclusive, the band in a Little Plum storyline as well as an interview with Ricky Wilson.
'The Angry Mob' comes b/w exclusive track 'Telling Me To Go' - recorded in the same sessions as “Yours Truly, Angry Mob” - mixed by Charlie Francis alongside a striking video from famed Director Wiz (Dizzee Rascal 'Sirens', Kasabian 'Empire'). |
