What we say
This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.
Battle have a new single out called 'Paper Street' on Trangressive. Exciting the CD has a Bloc Party mix. Well actually it says 'Russell Bloc Party Mix'.... Maybe the rest of the guys were having dinner? This is uber polished indie rock bland ness which is really going for the cash in your pockets. It treads along the cash cow road that Coldplay and Snow Patrol stroll down. Sure it rocks out a bit towards the end but it's so terribly safe I feel like playing blindfolded frogger on the roads just to get some danger back in my life.

OVERVIEW: Battle preview their forthcoming debut album ‘Break The Banks’ with the release of a single entitled ‘Paper Street’ on August 27th on Transgressive Records. ‘Break The Banks’ follows a week later on September 3rd. Produced by Geoff Knowler and mixed by Adrian Hall (The Young Knives) ‘Paper Street’ is the first full single release to be taken from the ‘Break The Banks’ set. Once again highlighting the strength and range of frontman Jason Bavanadan’s songwriting, ‘Paper Street’ follows the recent limited edition 7" single ‘The Longest Time’. "It’s questioning why, when people suffer and they ask for help, why they more often than not don’t get it?" explains Bavanadan in relation to the song’s theme." I can’t understand why a beneficial force in the universe, a god, would allow that to happen". Battle are currently spearheading a new initiative by Love Music Hate Racism in a bid to take a positive anti-racist message direct into the heart of areas known to have an existing or growing BNP presence. The band will be heading to Lancashire, Leicestershire, Morley and Barking & Dagenham to play lunchtime shows in schools, before taking part in and leading workshops aimed at counteracting the threat posed by the racist ideas pushed by the likes of the British National Party who have recently been exposed as having a major push to recruit school students. The band are also playing a weekly Advertising Breaks session on the band’s YouTube channel. Each week, Battle will perform two tracks; one from ‘Break The Banks’ and a cover. Episode One featured ‘North Sea’, one of the highlights of the upcoming album and was followed by a reinterpretation of The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’. |
