OVERVIEW: Reworking the classic Carpenters song 'Only Just Begun' into a hip hop hook isn't the easiest task, but duo Example & Rusher have managed to continue their blueprint of feel good songs with the infectious single, 'So Many Road'. Featuring a big poptastic chorus isn't exactly something we've come to expect with rap – especially UK rap. But then Example wouldn't want to fit in with stereotypes."I'm a pop artist. I'm not underground hip hop and I don't want to be. I wanna be the act that, when people turn round and ask you who you like, you say, "I like The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, The Streets, Jay-Z… and that guy Example. The one on the end who you think you shouldn't like because I'm UK hip hop. The one on the end of the list that you can't stop yourself liking" - EXAMPLEAs an anthemic live favourite - it was only a matter of time before 'So Many Roads' was released. The demo version of the track was pressed on limited vinyl (1000 copies only). When it sold out almost instantly - an unsigned Example, and a savvy Mike Skinner who later signed the young rapper to his label, The Beats – knew they were onto a good thing. The single will be released ahead of debut album 'What We Made', in September and looks set to certify that Example is definitely not someone you should or even could ignore. |
