‘Tales For Silent Nights’ is the second CD from Joan Malé aka Monoceros; warm, delicate, and more melancholic than his Expanding debut ‘When I Was A Child I Wanted To Be An Astronaut’, this piece is more focused on deep and emotional electronics, adding acoustic instruments, guitars, rhodes and toy sounds, mixing them with glitchy rhythms. Monocerous has composed a collection of varying styles which work perfectly together as an album. Beautiful and melodic dub-influenced tracks laced with naturalistic field recordings sit comfortably alongside some more experimental, simple and fractured pieces, while others evoke frozen landscapes or exhibit strong IDM breaks. With an abundance of ideas and aesthetic beauty, albums as stylish as this don’t come along often, and should be treasured like a favourite son.
