What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

The dude from Iron and Wine has an awesome beard. I'd like to see him have a 'Beard-off' with the drummer from Om. Beards rule. They make you feel like a proper man and you can totally change your look without the need for surgery. 'Boy With A Coin'... is Iron And Wine's single on Sub Pop / Transgressive and is a haunting little number with delicate piano and his soulful vocal. 10" and CD like.

What the label says:

TRACKLISTING: 10" A1) Carried Home, B1) Boy With A Coin, B2) Kingdom Of Animals,
CD 1 Carried Home, 2 Boy With A Coin, 3 Kingdom Of Animals,
OVERVIEW: 'Boy With A Coin', the first single to be taken from forthcoming album 'The Shepherd's Dog', is darkly playful, tumbling under its cascading melody and backwards guitar textures. A worthy example of the highest standard of songwriting displayed on the rest of the album and marks a departure in style from Beam's previous work, without betraying his blissful Americana roots. The B-sides, available on all formats and exclusive to this release, are the roaming piano ballad 'Kingdom of the Animals' and 'Carried Home'. Iron & Wine's long awaited third full-length The Shepherd's Dog will be released on September 24th. The follow up to ‘Our Endless Numbered Days’ and the ‘Woman King’,

About the humble 10":

The 10" sits somewhere in between the 7" and 10" (kind of like a wierd cousin). This awkward variant exists for no other reason aside from to be different from it's other family members. It can provide less music than a 12" but more than a 7". It's almost like a budget 12" or a posh 7". Either way it's wierd and it needs sorting out. Maybe it's quirkyness has helped it carry on defying all rules and convention? Importantly though it plays at a multitude of speeds so it is still quintessentially a total bargain (albeit a total freak of a bargain).
