What the label says:

The Mercury Music Prize and Brit award nominees unleash a melting pot of musical genres and a stirring collection of their personal influences and inspirations. Like many of the Back to Mine releases the track list often introduces the listener to previously undiscovered talent and this collection is no different. Contained on this hour long odyssey are notable lo-fi recordings from legends of their craft Sonic Youth and Daniel Johnston, a beautiful re-interpretation of The Beatles ‘And I Love Her’ by Esther Phillips. Earthly electronic delights come in the shape of Four Tet, Bjork and Amon Tobin with Roots Manuva dropping the proverbial hip hop bomb. XFM’s Lauren Laverne even makes an appearance under her Kenickie guise with nothing short of a great slice of pop. Cartola and Tartit see the band delving into different corners of the World whilst Buffalo Springfield and Sandy Denny add two masterpieces, the latter being the perfect end to this little soiree and often praised as the singers greatest work.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
