The Violets have an interesting 7" out on angular. The bare bones of 'Troubles Of Keneat' are of a punk /pop song but it's the use of the dubby effects that set this apart. It chugs along with a nice bassline and scratchy guitars, while female vocals that ooze attitude as she shrieks like a banshee (of the Siousxie kind)..... A handy little 7" on Angular.

The Violets are four punk fantasists from London who set out to create a sinister mood with elemental and triumphant pop music. Drawing inspiration from a range of disparate influences such as Neue Deutsche Welle, David Lynch and French Coldwave, The Violets have created a monochrome corner of their own. They began life as a three piece garage punk ensemble who could barely play their instruments, yet there was a vitality which belied their musical talents and set the band in motion. Their overwhelmingly energetic live show and the imposing presence of blonde frontwoman Alexis Mary provided an intensity that was missing from the post-Libertines skiffle bands of London’s live circuit.It wasn’t long before talk of The Violets spread and for press like NME to start singing their praises. Other bands such as The Horrors, Klaxons and These New Puritans also declared themselves fans. So impressed were Gossip with their live performance that they personally invited The Violets to support them on their UK tour in February 2007. ‘Troubles Of Keneat’ is a hedonistic coldwave-disco track with icy sharp synths, sleazy bass, and a guitar loop that reinvents David Bowie’s ‘Fashion’ as breaking glass. The result is a frenzy of white noise fractured by shards of melody; existing as much for the dancehall as the underworld.
