Dirty Projectors have an album out on Rough Trade. Rise Above is based around the guys 'remembered' lyrics from Black Flag's Damaged album. Musically it couldn't be any further removed. This is what I call art pop.... if you can get passed the guys voice this is probably genius. It's such a stumbling block for me though it makes me want slap the nearest person to me. He's got that annoying warble to his voice ala Antony, Banhart, etc.... that affected almost dramatic whinge that does nothing but serve to annoy. Though it's a very clever sounding record with some bonkers arrangements and some seriously interesting ideas with some bizarre instrumentation and crazy vocal melodies.... It's too good to rubbish so I wouldn't dream of doing that but there's something utterly pretentious about it which makes me think of art students!

The result is one of the most original albums of 2007 and nothing like the original except for embodying some classic punk rock spirit!
