What we say
This record left our Phil feeling happy.
The Old House have a 7" out on Louder Than Bombs called 'Weekend Driver'. Something which arse me off.... sunday drivers toodling along at no miles an hour hogging the road and making me feel violent. Road rage rules...Anyway this is some chirpy wonky indie ala Pavement with some hints of The Cribs on there. Pretty good we thought!
What the label says:
The Old House are an indie-rock band based in Wakefield.
Formed four years ago in a shitty ‘fast-food’ restaurant The Old House have gone through a myriad of changes since their original incarnation. Now made up of Jamie Lockhart, Craig Newman, Paul Reid & Russell Searle.
The band played incessantly for the first two years eventually releasing debut single ‘Relationships Hooray’ in September 2005, a split with fellow Wakefieldians ‘Piskie Sits’ on Leeds/Huddersfield label Wrath Records.
A two year break followed this whilst one fathered a child, one grew a beard and three got engaged to long term girlfriends. One became a vegetarian, two already were.
Spring 2007 saw their return, shows and new songs followed. A stint of writing and recording at Greenmount Studios resulted in current single ‘Weekend Driver’. The first week of October will see the singles official release on Louder Than Bombs records.
‘…The Old House matches up its odd EQ values and muddy guitar sounds and semi-narrative mid-west musings. Like Malkmus and plaid shirted late 80’s garage music, there’s a charm to this shaky little number as it finishes off it’s story efficiently and with little fuss. Interesting…’ Manchestermusic.com
‘…A bit like a band from Wakefield covering an American band covering Wakefield’s own The Cribs. And quite frankly they are effing great…’ Rockfeedback
