Laura Groves is a singer songwritery lady who makes a pleasing noise on 'I Am Leaving' which reminds me a bit of Joanna Newsom but more kooky and twee indie sounding. It has a high twinkle factor despite it being largely played on acoustic guitar.... Very nice sounding record though and it will appeal to folks who like Nancy Elizabeth and that kind of shenanigans. What the label says: “Stunning Bradford singer-songwriter of much ethereal beauty” - Drowned In Sound Laura Groves, 19 years of age, lives in the town of Shipley. Here she writes songs for various instruments, some of which she can play and some of which she can’t (but tries to anyway), and watches the interesting folk go by.   With deftly fingerpicked guitar, rich synths, layers of harmony and Laura’s mesmerising falsetto voice, ‘I Am Leaving’ draws the listener into her kaleidoscopic world and beyond; a world past Shipley station, over Shipley tower and out into the great outdoors.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
