What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Here's a bargain 5 x 7" set on Cheapdate Records celebrating the Canadian indie underground. I'm not talking about you Arts & Crafts/ Constellation gear either. I'm talking about the indie rock and indie electro gear that's falling out of Canada's arse quicker than last nights curry (nice...). Err... here's 5 7"'s featuring Crystal Castles, You Say Party We Say Die and loads more folks that even I've never heard of. It's hilariously called 'Hordes of Canada' and it's yours for less than 5.50 pounds (or 1 trillion Canadian dollars... ha!)

What the label says:

Hello and welcome to..................Cheap Date Records.  We like music with an edge that's made by people with an edge and is, well.... f**king honest! To that note we went to Canada and found a haul of bands so genuine and scarily avant-garde we were forced to go against all known logic and reason and put out a sexily designed, stupidly expensive to make, 5 x 7" vinyl pack. But in the words of many great men and women of our time, we said 'F**k it'. We mean it and we hope you mean it too. These 10 Canadian gems are a cross-section rumble of attitude and angst versus anthemic art-rock. Damn fine rebel songs and a statement of intent from our bandit friends in the North. So enjoy a slice of alternative Canada, 3000 miles from East to West.... you'll find a piece of it here.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
