What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Mingus Rude feeling unmoved.

The Cribs: 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant?'(Wichita) How relevant they'll be this time next we'll see, drainpipe and plimsoll rock and roll full of bombast, who according to our boss (who has a sneaky admiration), write a catchy pop hook when they can be arsed. Charging punky guitars, terrace chant vocals...as much melody as attitude. Various versions across various formats.

What the label says:

Their return comes in the shape of AA sided single including three brand new recordings across the different formats.  'Our Bovine Public' already a favourite with the band's hardcore fanbase and with the added bonus of a brand new track 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant?' on the mix and match AA format. The Cribs were the last band to record with Edwyn Collins prior to his falling ill and are the first to record with him since his rehabilitation and it arrives in the form of another brand new track 'Kind Words From The Broken Hearted' recorded at Edwyn’s Westheath Studios.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
