What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

There's 2 new releases on Great Pop Supplement this week. First up is Pet Politics: 'The Spring' which comes in an incredible circular sleeve. You listen to this and it doesn't sound like it was made recently..... It sounds well 60's.... I'm getting The Velvet Underground (the vocals are quite Lou Reed-y) and some of the earlier Flying Nun New Zealand quirkpop. It's a cracking little tune which lives up to the delightfully original packaging. Limited!!

What the label says:

2 bars in and you immediately realize that this one moves away from the recent cluster of ace psych / folk gps 45s. 3 incessantly catchy, kinda warped, pop nuggets from Swedish one man outfit pet politics. Years ago they’d call this stuff naïve pop. Either way, we’ll betcha’ that as long as there’s a sun in the sky you’ll be humming something off this EP.
Stupidly good record, given the usual gps packaging treatment too- this one comes in a circular, shell like 7” sleeve no less…

Other customers buying this also bought:

Love & Remains by Sportique (7", £3.99)
Don't Believe A Word I Say by Sportique (7", £3.79)
Communique No 9 by Sportique (10", £10.49)
split by The Queens of Sheba (Devendra Banhart)/Lavender Di (7", £3.99)
Twelve Days Of Christmas by Futureheads, Field Music, Various (Joseph & Mary C (7", £2.99)

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
