Grantura have a 7" out this week on Ruffa Lane (the home of Lucky Soul).'Waves' is a bouncy 70's sounding pop tune with it's heart in jangly indie and American country twinged rock (Crosby Stills & Nash etc).. In fact it sounds an awful lot like The Byrds. The press release was spot on for this one. Not much else to add aside from it's a strong little tune. What the label says:Debut single from the country-tinged SE Londoners on Lucky Soul’s label. A departure from the classic gal-fronted indie pop of Lucky Soul, these fellow South East Londoners are fresh from support with artists such as The Broken Family Band and have been picking up strong radio support from the likes of Gary Crowley at BBC London. With a nod and a wink to The Band, The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Elliott Smith, ‘Waves’ is a faithful ambassador for the Grantura style. It ebbs and flows through nostalgic sepia-washed American alt-rock, but its lush harmonies, warm kindly guitars and understated honest vocals are evocative of a sound that is unmistakably British and 21st century in its delivery. |
