What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Here's Kotki Dwa with the possibly the brightest most colourful sleeve I've ever seen in my life. I can hear rainbows crying in the corner of the room at it's superlative brightness. 'Robin's Clogs' is it's name and it's a bouncy slab of old indie gear which is somewhere between Jack Penate and Chris TT. Cheeky sounding and it's as colorful as the sleeve would lead you to think it is. For once it's OK to judge a book by it's cover, but never judge the look by the lover.

What the label says:

Kotki dwa are a Buckinghamshire trio comprising brothers Alex and Tristan Ostrowski and their close friend Tom Walker. Together they preside over a happy and at times chaotic collision of guitar, bass, drums and multitude of electronic gadgetry and gizmos that fashions their beautiful and unique indie bounce-pop sound. Their previous self release has just been rated 8/10 by NME and is also starting to catch the ears of the world at large.  Highlights for the band so far include recording a live session for the Huw Stephens Radio 1 show and the band were announced as the winners of the Tate Modern’s ‘Your Tate Track’ contest. This will place their music alongside that of such leading luminaries as Klaxons, the Chemical Brothers and the Long Blondes et en face the painting by Francis Picabia, which provided the inspiration for their track, Le Beau Charcutier.  This together with some exciting gigs has resulted in growing press coverage (NME, Fly, Time Out, etc) leading to comments including “chock-a-block with brilliance” - Alex Miller NME, “my favourite current new band” - Huw Stephens. Their debut single ‘Robin’s Clogs’ will be coming out on December 10th 2007 on Mily Records and will be accompanied by an animated video of epically miniature proportions, hand crafted and created by kotki dwa themselves.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
