What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Mingus feeling happy.

Growing: 'Disconfirm' (Social Registry) I don't know anything about this band but i've been intrigued by some of their sleeves. This starts out all fuzzy drone like with little flickers of melody slowly seeping through the gauze of crackle, hum and buzz. It's a textural sound piece that builds and builds to an abrupt ending. On 7" only in a numbered edition of 750 on The Social Registry.

What the label says:

This is the eighth release in The Social Registry’s ongoing series aptly titled The Social Club. Dispatched monthly via letter-pressed/limited edition 7-inch vinyl and digital distribution, this series presents a full musical array: the established and the obscured, the noisy and the delicate, the tempered and the experimental. Marking their recent addition to The Social Registry’s roster, Olympia-via- Brooklyn’s Growing present their first contribution to the label with this installment in our ongoing 7” series. Consisting of members Joe Denardo and Kevin Doria, Growing’s already legendary status among ambient and noise-rock circles has solidified their reputation. The two songs found on this 7” represent the best of the band, spotlighting their uncanny ability to extract alien and ethereal sounds from the traditional format of the electric guitar. Though the 7” consists of just two songs, and short ones by the band’s standards,
it truly illuminates the diverse spread of their ability and the sonic wellspring they draw from. Disconfirm is a heady and cerebral affair, a slow-churning exercise in repetition, floating awash in slowly building soundscapes. It’s a rockist’s response to minimal techno. Horizon Drift, however, is sparse and blip-heavy, punctured by artfully sonic jabs. Both songs presented here do the band’s notoriously loud and transcendent live shows justice, and point to great things on the horizon with The Social Registry.
