With dubstep now in its adolescence, 2008 will be the year in which it abandons its own self-imposed stylistic shackles and begins to adapt to and assimilate other sounds. Trust the already-essential LoDubs imprint to be at the head of the pack. Solvent is a Toronto producer who, for anyone even remotely exposed to the last decade of electronic music, should need no introduction. Although usually pegged as an electro and IDM artist, the straight truth is that he creates some of the most evocative and memorable music within that spectrum, with albums to his name on Suction, Morr and Ghostly Intenational. The original version of  ‘Think Like Us’ can be found on a Ghostly 12” featuring remixes by Alter Ego and Ectomorph, from which the idea for Bombaman’s own re-fix first grew. Bombaman (aka Matt Carl aka Loetech) has added a dry, vacuum-inducing-deep bassline, and tweaked robotic  vocals that has created a stir akin to a hard kick of a hornets nest in online forums. Previously only available as a shared file, now it will be the first in a series of remix 12”s to be released on Lo Dubs under the subtitle Special Request. Bombaman’s own original cut ‘Rise Against’ haunts the flipside with an eerie vibe that magnifies elements of the sample from ‘Mr. Kirk’s Nightmare’ for maximum impact. Coming up close after on Lo Dubs Special Request are Canadian doom metallers Nadja remixed by Vex’d, which will make the Bloodied Blade crew sound like Britney.
