What we say
This record left our Ant feeling unmoved.
Yep it be Ant fresh from my christmas holidays lunging straight into a pitiful pile of plates ...Consumerism, globalization, world domination and television drug of the nation are abound in 2008 as The Macabees 'Toothpaste Kisses' is featured on a new mobile phone ad. Brian reckons there's a bit of a Jeff Buckley thing going on. For me it lacks zest and makes me want to take out an 18 month contract... On them! We once accidentally shipped one of their singles prior to the release date and it go mentioned on a blog and so we got a pretend telling off. You cant get away with anything these days what with all these mobile phones and internet spys. The walls have ears. Picture disc 7" and CD single.
What the label says:
Brighton's finest The Maccabees return with the full single release of their beautiful track 'Toothpaste Kisses' on 7th January, on CD, 7" Picture Disc and download.
After pricking up the ears of executives at Samsung the song was chosen to accompany their advert for the new G800 phone handset which has been all over our screens from Nov 19th, running right through til xmas.
The stripped down tender track shows a different side to the 5 piece, known for creating crowd frenzies with their up-tempo songs. At this years Glastonbury when introducing the forthcoming single lead singer Orlando Weeks declared– “this is a love song”. No ordinary love song, ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ is the kind of stop you in your tracks, grab the one you love, love song.
If you need further proof just check out the jaw dropping video – with it’s scenes of cleverly choreographed ‘extreme snogging’ The Maccabees might soon be responsible for a lot more than just making great music! Uber-blogger Perez Hilton even championed the video from the homepage of his blog, adding 60,000 youtube views in the process:
Ending the year on an almighty high, The Maccabees have not only been asked to lend their forthcoming single ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ to the new Samsung Ad but they are also racking up their album of the year titles from media wide and far. ‘Colour It In’ has so far been awarded Album of 2007 status by Artrocker, is a Drowned in Sound album of the year, and XFM have put the debut long player in their top 10 albums of the year – beating off stiff competition from the likes of Jamie T & Jack Penate. |
